Anxiety is a tricky one and for those affected and the triggers and solutions are diverse but often seem so solid and immovable people may have a sense of hopelessness and a fear about the anxiety itself.
In today’s fast paced, over polluted, stressful world where people are overstimulated, under loved, under supported, over medicated, addicted, and malnourished, it’s no surprise people are either not present or experience mild to severe symptoms of anxiety in epidemic proportions and many people are seeking treatment or receiving medication already.
The good news is that anxiety is changeable and with consistent effort and awareness and some of the new modalities and tools available today, it is possible to break the back of it in a shorter time frame than you may imagine.
Because there are lots of nutritional and exercise based experts out there, I am going to focus my suggestions on behavioral/empowerment based solutions.
NINE STRATEGIES FOR HANDLING ANXIETY
SOLUTION ONE: DROP YOUR BARRIERS AND EXPAND YOUR ENERGY FIELD OUTWARDS
Do this in your mind and your body will follow. When we go into a state of panic or fear that is accompanied by a huge contraction in the body and putting our barriers up (which is what feels so awful).
Changing the physical state causes the mind and feelings to follow. Stay expanded out and notice the contrast. To connect with me and learn more about how to do this, click here.
SOLUTION TWO: AT THE ONSET OF ANXIETY ASK – WHAT AM I AWARE OF HERE?
One of the things I’ve noticed for myself is that I am highly aware of how others are feeling and sometimes I may be noticing someone else’s judgments of themselves or others and think that it is mine when it isn’t.
When I started to regard my anxiety in this way, my focus shifted from “What am I feeling so awful about” and onto “Body what are you telling me about what I’ve not acknowledged in this situation”?
Then, I noticed it was always the energy of certain people or certain places that affected me. I began to acknowledge what I hadn’t noticed before and I didn’t feel helpless, I felt powerful.
SOLUTION THREE: ASK – IS THIS RECURRING THOUGHT/FEAR I’M EXPERIENCING TRUE FOR ME OR IS IT SOMETHING I’VE BOUGHT AS TRUE THAT ISN’T?
Just having the presence of mind to ask the question can shift the emphasis off of feeling small and create a change.
SOLUTION FOUR: SHIFT YOUR FOCUS AWAY FROM WHAT OTHERS THINK AND ONTO WHAT YOU CAN DO
In my experience, most anxiety in social situations is caused by what others are thinking of us or what people think is wrong with them in that moment that they fear others might be noticing.
If we can take our focus off what we fear others are thinking and onto how they might be feeling and ask how we can contribute to them and to the situation, it takes our awareness away from what’s wrong and puts it onto what’s right and helps us to feel valuable instead of crappy.

SOLUTION FIVE: OBSERVE IN THE MOMENT AND RECORD LATER ON
Take time and write down what you are aware of at the time as soon as you are able after an anxious episode. What are the primary thoughts you are having? What is the primary feeling, what happened just before you went into that state? What happened earlier that day?
Record it all and see if you have any A-has. This will give you plenty of material to share with a good therapist, counsellor or life coach from which to gain insight around your patterns and importantly will allow you the feeling of doing something constructive about it can help you feel more powerful in the moment.
SOLUTION SIX: SHIFT YOUR FOCUS OFF JUDGING YOU AND ONTO TRUSTING YOURSELF AND LIFE
Learn some ways to stop focusing on the wrongness of you and the helplessness you may be feeling after a bout of anxiety and find some ways of being kind to yourself and your body afterwards.
A common theme with anxious clients, is that they beat up on themselves afterwards, adding to the whole miserable cycle and conundrum. It’s important to remember that the way anxiety shows up may make it seem bigger than you, but it isn’t insurmountable.
Trust that you are experiencing these sensations for a reason. What if unlocking the cause would free you from whatever fears, old experiences and painful memories or beliefs that you didn’t even know were bothering you?

SOLUTION EIGHT: WORK WITH YOUR BODY FOR GREATER EASE
Find a modality that works for you that will create change in the body physiologically and support the mind in making a change, empowering you in the process.
My go to is having my Bars run. Bars is a body process from Access Consciousness that has been recently studied by neuroscientist Jeffrey Fannin. He discovered that one session will put someone in a brainwave state equivalent to someone that has studied meditation for twenty years.
For many folks, meditation is big in their world and a great place to start. For me, I personally didn’t find that meditation in itself was rapid or powerful enough, but I do use a meditative state to access certain techniques and tools that I love to use.
SOLUTION NINE: DEAL WITH YOUR EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE
If you have old emotional baggage such as trauma and dramas, family of origin stuff or other stresses or events that you don’t know how to release, find an expert who can teach you how or do it with you during a one on one session. I can’t emphasize this enough, as anxiety is often the body alerting us it is carrying enough ‘stuff’ and needs our assistance and focus on dealing with some things to create a change.
Find a life coach, healer, facilitator or other expert who can teach you empowering tools for managing your life with. This is MOST important if you are an empath as often what we are sensing from those around us can often make some people feel incredibly anxious.
